The Cathedral of San Carlos Borromeo was founded on June 3, 1770, by Franciscan Saint Junipero Serra in The Presidio of Monterey. Due to heated conflict in the region, a year later Serra moved the original building to its present-day site, making this structure one of the oldest buildings in California. Also known as the Royal Presidio Chapel, the Cathedral of San Carlos Borromeo stands as a testament to history, faith, and enduring architectural beauty.
