Hertz in Cathedral City, California

Had a quick an easy time with their online services. Just the fact that they offered unlimited miles throughout the united states was what made it a cinch to want to pick them as our rental company for our trip. Would highly recommend them again in the future. Their staff was great in setting us up and getting us on our way. Thought that Enterprise would have been able to do that but not even close. Thank you Hertz for a great renting experience and look forward to doing business with you again.

If I could give it a zero I would. Maybe even negative stars. By far the worst experience I have ever had with a company. Read on if you would like.... I had a standing reservation for a compact or mid-size vehicle. Upon my arrival at this location I was told that they were out of vehicles I had requested so they upgraded me. This "upgrade" was, in fact, a down grade. Instead of a newer mid-size, they put me in older (possibly 2010-2013) Chevrolet Impala. I told them that I would rather have a smaller car due to gas mileage and I was told this was my only option. Reluctantly, I took the car. Once on the road we discovered that the vehicle pulled hard to the right, it rattled, it was NOT clean, and it smelled like stale cigarettes. This car seemed like it was someone's personal car, that they had speed-cleaned and then offered to us. As soon as we got to our hotel I called and told them my issues, and asked if I could return the car for something else. I was told by the manager, Lawrence, that he didn't have any vehicles and that he has been "waiting on a shipment of vehicles". I asked if he could call me when a car the size I had requested was available. He said he would call me. I did not receive a call. The next morning I called and spoke with the lady who had checked us out, Jasmine. I told her my same concerns and that Lawrence had not called me back. I was told that "the entire valley is dry" of cars. I told her that if they could not provide me a more appropriate vehicle and one in good driving condition then I would have to return the car early to them and rent from a different company. She said that she could not guarantee they would have a car. So, I called Enterprise and they offered me MANY options for vehicles at about the same rate I was paying for. I called Jasmine back and let her know that I would be returning the car at about 2:30PM, she said that would be fine. After picking up a clean, mid-sized, safe-driving, and comfortable vehicle from Enterprise, we returned the car at about 2:15. I again checked out with Jasmine, expressed my concerns, she said she understood. I was then charged for the 2 extra hours of rental time, and my rate was changed to the daily rate. She then proceeded to argue back with me saying that there was absolutely nothing she could do for me. Her manager wasn't there, and she didn't know when he would back. She told me I could try calling the corporate number. So, not only was I given a vehicle that was in poor driving condition and not in the class I wanted, my rate was changed from $210 for 6 days to $86 for 26 hours, and I am basically unable to file a complaint against this location or this company. Upon calling the corporate number the very unpleasant lady there offered me a $50 gift certificate on my next rental, OR I could e-mail their customer relations department. NOT BOTH. Therefore, if I receive the $50 certificate, their customer relations team would not respond to my email. I have never felt so powerless as a customer, and I have never been treated this poorly by a company.
